Young Lawyers in the Community

Every so often we hear about opportunities for you, young lawyers, to help out in your community.
When we do, we’ll put them up here, and the rest is up to you.

Know any young lawyers or young farmers in the Auckland area?

The Auckland Branch is busy setting up an Auckland Young Lawyers’ Committee.  Keep an ear out for their upcoming events and watch this space for more information.

Also if you know anyone in the region who has a background or an interest in farming, let them know a young farmers branch is being formed in Auckland. Contact Erica at scotty.hellaby@xtra.co.nz for more information or head along to the 1st meeting (10th of November at the Cardrona Ale House, Mt Eden at 7pm).  They can see what it’s all about with no pressure to join up.

The Wellington Community Justice Project

The Wellington Community Justice Project is a new student-driven project that has started up at Victoria University this year. The project provides students with the opportunities to volunteer in various community legal projects.  Currently, the project is looking for lawyers to supervise students working at a brand new clinic at the Evolve Youth Centre on Eva St (just off Dixon Street in the Wellington CBD). The clinic will assist young people with queries about their legal rights.  The clinics will run on a fortnightly basis from 4-6pm. If you are interested in being involved (even if you could not make the full two hours for which the clinic runs) and/or would like more information, please contact Emily Bruce or Claire Hislop at advocacy@wellingtoncjp.org.
